Most of our Flotilla participants have now made their way home, back to Canada. The israeli forces spent days trying to break their spirits, but they have instead come back more determined than ever to break the siege and end the ongoing genocide.
Support our participants with a donation here Sign & share our petition demanding sanctions on Israel here On Wednesday June 3, returning Canadian Boat to Gaza participant Ehab Lotayef, along with Global Sumud Flotilla Canadian activists Safa Chebbi and Luiza Ravalli, got to share their stories in Ottawa, at a joint press conference held by NDP MPs Jenny Kwan and Heather McPherson with former diplomat Richard Kohler. There, Flotilla participants shared some of the horrific details of their abduction in international waters, and the subsequent torture at the hands of israeli forces.
Watch their testimony here This press conference also served as a way to bring Palestinian lives and Canada's complicity in the genocide back to the forefront. More and more people are calling for concrete steps to be taken by the Carney government. Despite this, we have yet to hear from Prime Minister Carney and Foreign Minister Anand, to whom a joint letter was sent on May 26th, where they were asked for a meeting, and for our demands to be met:
- Take all means necessary to immediately end the genocide of the Palestinian people and the illegal blockade imposed on Gaza;
- Adopt immediate sanctions against Israel, including the termination of the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement and cut all political, diplomatic, economic, financial, military, academic, and cultural relations contributing to Israel’s ongoing violations of international law;
- Adopt a comprehensive two-way arms and military equipment embargo on Israel;
- Call for the immediate release of the 10,000 Palestinian prisoners including 100s of children, being held hostage, tortured, sexually abused, and arbitrarily detained by the Israeli colonial regime.
We need to put as much pressure as we can on our elected officials to change Canada's stance. In the face of genocide, strongly worded letters and tweets are not enough. We need concrete action.
Sign & share the petition While the fight here continues, the return of our Flotilla participants also means being there to support them. From paying for their flights home to ensuring their care and well-being, to the cost of fuel and provisions used on the boats, bills are still coming in. Please consider supporting our work through a donation.
Help support those in the struggle We have not stopped, nor will we ever stop, so long as our government fails to take concrete steps to end the genocide, and end its complicity with the apartheid-state of israel. .
In love and rage,
